“Heuler” is the name given to seal pups that are separated from their mothers during the nursing period. If you happen to come across a “Heuler” while taking a walk on a North Sea beach, please keep the following in mind:
- Keep a safe distance (at least 300 meters) and do not block the path to the water so that the mother can find her way to her pups.
- Do not touch the animal or move it from where you found it, and be as quiet as possible.
- Keep dogs and other animals away from the “Heuler.”
- Report the animal and its location to the police by dialing 110. The police will notify the volunteer seal hunter.
