Be Considerate When Out and About with Your Furry Friend

Since our unique natural environment, the Wadden Sea, and coastal protection are very important to us, dogs must be kept on a leash at all times and year-round on the beaches and dikes of the Eiderstedt Peninsula and in St. Peter-Ording. This is because sheep, seals, and seabirds call this area home and need to be protected, especially while foraging, resting, and nesting. Of course, you should also be considerate of other North Sea vacationers. Part of a considerate dog-friendly vacation also includes using the dog service stations equipped with bag dispensers and trash cans for your four-legged friend’s waste.

A place to let off steam

SPO's Three Dog Parks

In St. Peter-Ording, you can let your dog run around to its heart’s content on two designated dog beaches along the coast. At the Ording Nord and Bad dog parks, your dog can run around with a stick and a ball—both on land and in the water—completely off-leash. The areas are marked by signs on posts along the beach, so you’ll know exactly where you’re allowed to let your dog off the leash.

There’s a third area located within town. The fenced-in dog park, which covers about 3,000 square meters, is in Westmarken between the local districts "Ording" and "Bad", next to the old shooting club.

Take a seat by the sea

Dog Beach Chairs

Need a break after playing with a stick and ball? Then you and your four-legged friend can take a seat in a beach chair in the dog-friendly area. In all beach sections—Bad, Böhl, Dorf, Ording, and Ording Nord (nudist beach)—you’ll find marked beach chair platforms that invite you and your dog to relax comfortably while enjoying the salty North Sea air. Please note, however: Out of consideration for other guests, the other beach chair areas are dog-free zones.

Watch out: Sun & Salt Water!

Well-prepared for the road

In the summer, a long walk along the beach to the water’s edge, the blazing sun, and the salty air can be especially exhausting for your dog. So be sure to pack plenty of fresh water, and on particularly hot days, give your dog a cooling scarf or a wet shirt from time to time.

Our tip: You’ll find drinking stations in front of many restaurants and tourist information centers in SPO.
