It’s been a while, but it all started with the TV series “Gegen den Wind”: St. Peter-Ording became known throughout Germany as a top surfing spot. And several decades later, that’s still true. Feeling the speed of the wind and the power of the North Sea up close—that’s windsurfing.
In St. Peter-Ording, both pros and beginners ride the waves on the North Sea’s wind.
Windsurfing is also possible on Eiderstedt, specifically in Vollerwiek. At the green swimming area, the water reaches the dike at high tide. Windsurfing is permitted outside the marked swimming zone, so windsurfers regularly take to the water here.
The Water Sports Center is the hub for water sports on the beach at St. Peter-Ording. Whether it’s kitesurfing, windsurfing, or stand-up paddleboarding, there’s something for everyone here. The water sports center offers introductory courses, certifications, classes for children, beginners, and advanced participants, as well as private lessons.
Anyone interested in trying out these sports on vacation or looking to improve their existing skills can look forward to many great options.

Thanks to the perfect kitesurfing conditions at St. Peter-Ording Beach, Germany’s kitesurfing elite gathers in St. Peter-Ording once a year to compete in the California Kitesurf Masters.
