It’s also worth stopping by to see Jan and Gret at the market square!
They symbolize the “Lütten Lüüd”—that is, the poor and humble people who used to live in St. Peter-Ording and eked out a living from their gardens and the sea.
Gret catches crabs (Porrn) with her Gliep, and Jan spears an eel with his Prigg.

Near the market square and the Old Town Hall is the historical island, featuring the Backhus (traditional house for baking), an ice cellar, and an insect hotel. At the Backhus, fresh bread is regularly baked in a wood-fired oven according to old traditions. You can find the dates in the event calendar.

Weekly Market

Every Wednesday morning, the weekly market takes place in our town square. There, you’ll have the chance to pick up regional products, seasonal foods, and fragrant flowers and perennials—and of course, you can have a chat in the local dialect, too!

Small & quiet

Sandy Beach

The stretch of beach in the local district "Dorf" is called “Südstrand” and is the smallest and most tranquil swimming spot here in St. Peter-Ording. It’s characterized by salt marshes.
You can only swim here at high tide. At low tide, however, you can join a guided mudflat hike and explore the secrets of the Wadden Sea right down to the seabed.
