The TZ Apprentice Team

Horseback riding, soccer, the volunteer fire department—our apprentices’ interests couldn’t be more different. Nevertheless, they have one thing in common: They all hold stilt houses close to their hearts, want to make a difference, continue their education, and successfully complete their apprenticeships. And of course, having fun is a must!

Want to learn more about our trainee team? No problem! Here are by far the coolest, most creative, and most motivated trainees in the far north.

Ole started school in St. Peter-Ording when he was 15. Even while he was still in school, he was very interested in event technology. Now in his early twenties, he volunteers eight Tuesdays in a row each summer as a sound engineer at the Musikantenbörse in Garding. He has shown just as much dedication since August 2024 in the Events & Experiences department. No matter what the task, Ole is there and rolls up his sleeves to get the job done.

Jette comes from a competitive swimming background—she’s been at the pool several times a week for over 10 years to train. Jette knew she wanted to pursue a career related to swimming. So her love of water led her to us here at SPO, at the Dünen-Therme.

Lara moved from Thuringia to St. Peter-Ording in 2024 to begin her training here with us. But the town wasn’t new to her, since Lara had often traveled to SPO with her family in the past to spend her vacations here—sometimes even several times a year. So she already knows her way around town very well! Full of motivation, she moved to the far north, to the coast. This motivation shines through even at the tourist information office. There, Lara always greets guests with a friendly smile and her helpful nature.

“Action” is Luca’s motto—whether with the volunteer fire department or at work. Anyone who knows Luca will quickly realize that he’s a true team player who acts according to the principles of community: tasks are tackled together, and successes are celebrated as a group. When there’s a fire, Luca is on the scene—fully motivated and uncompromising.

In 2022, Ninke decided to come to SPO to complete a voluntary ecological year at the Wadden Sea Conservation Station here in St. Peter-Ording. Today, Ninke is part of the Tourism Center, and with her ecological expertise, her positive and open personality, and her enthusiasm, she is an absolute asset to the organization. Swimming in the North Sea? For this talented swimmer, there’s nothing better after work! She’s just as fast and determined in her training as she is when she’s darting through the water!

Hi,

My name is Lena Steffens, and I completed my apprenticeship at the Tourismus-Zentrale St. Peter-Ording from 2006 to 2009. For several years now, I’ve been responsible for our apprentices here at the office. It brings me great joy every single day to help them discover the richness and diversity of our work, to guide them on their career paths, and to be there for them whenever they have questions. Eiderstedt is my hometown and my home—there’s no better place to live and work.

My motto: If you believe you can do anything, you’ll surpass others!

Apprenticeship as a Swimming Pool Operations Specialist

Are you interested in swimming pool operations and want to learn more about the technical aspects? Then this apprenticeship is just right for you!

The training program to become a swimming pool operations specialist lasts three years and takes place both here on-site and at the vocational school in Neumünster.

Training Program and Departments

You'll take classes in these departments during your training with us.

Organizing and supervising pool operations are among the most important tasks at the Dünen-Therme. This includes providing guest services and managing and monitoring technical processes on site. During your training, you’ll learn how to properly clean a swimming pool, what technical challenges a swimming pool presents, and how important the right expertise is in the swimming pool industry. You’ll also assist with swimming lessons and sauna infusions in our log cabin sauna.

The facilities management team maintains all our machines and keeps them in good working order, monitors and adjusts water parameters, repairs slides, parking meters, and parking barriers, and replenishes chlorine levels. Without our facilities management staff, nothing here would run at all!
